The Annual HMUH Chinese Auction
doors open at 4 pm, prize calling begins at 6:30. Winners need not be present, but if you are bidding on one of our larger prizes you MUST be available to pick it up and take it home no later than 11 pm that evening or your prize will be forfeited. NO exceptions will be made
Annual Halloween Costume Giveaway
Our annual Halloween costume giveaway. Every year, with the help of the Center Moriches Library and local communities, we collect gently used Halloween costumes and accessories and invite the public for a free costume shopping event
Suffolk County has asked us if we would once again make "Comfort Cases" for the children who must be removed from their homes due to neglect. These are the children who truly leave home with nothing but what they can carry in a garbage bag
Summer of Feeding the Families
Early July starts our 4th annual program of supplying and delivering boxes of non-perishable foods to families referred to us by local schools. Mondays we always pack the food boxes at 5:30 pm and Tuesday is delivery day- weather permitting- between 10:30-5:30
Thanksgiving Food Boxes
This Thanksgiving, thanks to the overwhelming generosity of SFCU, Brownie Troop 1659, Cub Scout Troop 23 , Boy Scout Troop 23, and many community members, we were able to provide Thanksgiving food boxes and turkeys to 33 local families.
Suffolk Federal Credit Union Food Drive
Helping Makes U Happy wishes to thank SFCU for hosting a food drive to benefit HMUH in all nine of their branches during the month of October. We will be able to assist many local families with these wonderful donations.
Thanks For Giving Drive
Helping Makes U Happy will be collecting new socks and underwear for the homeless beginning in November. These are some of the most needed items, and we are hoping to make a difference for those in need. The Center Moriches PTA will be assisting us in collecting these items, watch for our donation boxes. We are extremely grateful to Cowfish, Rhum, and Rhumba restaurants who will be holding a staff donation drive across their four locations.
LONG ISLAND IMAGINE AWARDS RISING STAR AND FACEBOOK FAN FAVORITE AWARD WINNER!On April 30, 2019 Helping Makes U Happy was extremely proud to have won 2 grants at the 7th Annual Long Island Imagine Awards, acknowledging that we are one of Long Islands most effective and innovative non-profit organizations. This is an event attended by over 450 of the regions top non-profits executives, volunteers, and corporate sponsors. Over 170 nonprofit applications were submitted to win $5,000 grants in each of 5 categories. 20 of those were selected as finalists, and in the first time of the history of the awards ONE winner won 2 grants- the $5,000 Rising Star Award and the $2,500 Facebook Fan Favorite Award- HELPING MAKES U HAPPY! All 200 comfort cases donated to Suffolk County "N-Docket" children (those removed from their homes due to neglect), have been distributed. We will continue to collect new backpacks, toiletries, fleece throws, and school supplies to provide additional children with our comfort cases.
HMUH once again gave away Halloween costumes and accessories at the Center Moriches Fall Fair on Saturday, October 20th.

Our chinese auction was held on October 13th, and was a huge success! Thank you to all those who sponsored, donated, and attended.
Feeding the Families Summer 2018 Project
Our third summer of feeding families in need of breakfast and lunch items began July 2nd, and continues through August 28th. This year we assisted 27 families (63 children) referred to us by the school district.
School Supplies and Backpack Collection
Helping Makes U Happy once again collected school supplies and backpacks to provide to students returning to school this year. Thank you to all those who donated school supplies.
Memorial Day Breakfast
Our Memorial Day breakfast for local veterans, the military, and their families was a success. Thanks to VFW Post 414 for hosting and to all our volunteers, we couldn't have done it with you!
Prom Impact Project
Helping Makes U Happy is proud to have donated prom dresses and shoes to this project, presented by the 5th Precinct Alliance in accordance with the SCPD. Through mid-April we will happily accept donations of dresses/shoes/ bag and especially suits/shoes for young men of prom age for this worthy cause.

Community Yard Sale
Thank you to all who came to our community yard sale on June 2nd, and to all the vendors who spent the day with us - your support is much appreciated.
Clean for Cancer
During the month of April we participated in Stony Brook Cancer Center's "Spring Clean for Cancer." We collected 80 bags of clothing, linens, and towels to help raise funds to support patient programs and services.
Gaming for Good Night
Our first gaming for good night held April 3rd, in partnership with East End Gaming (Main St., Easport), was a success! Participants had fun playing video games at the HMUH building and each donated items for Suffolk County Veteran's Food Pantry. We will be hosting another Gaming for Good night in the near future.
Our founder/board member Keith Caputo has been selected by the Moriches Chamber of Commerce to be the Grand Marshal of the 2018 St. Patrick's Day Parade on March 11!
On Feb. 28, 2018 Keith was honored to be inducted into the Center Moriches Fire Department as an Honorary Member. What a great honor and privilege!
Helping Make U Happy put together "comfort cases"- backpacks filled with toiletries, a fleece throw, toy, comb, brush, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste - and donated to children who have been removed from their homes and relocated by Suffolk County, due to neglectful situations.
Helping Our Neighbors in Need
Thanks to the generosity of Suffolk Federal Credit Union, who has made HMUH the recipient of the month long food drive in all 9 of their branches, we were able to provide for all the families referred to us and assisted in filling the shelves of local food pantries.
For the fourth year in a row, we were honored to be awarded first place community float in CMFD's Parade of Lights.
Super Bowl Party Raffle
Our highly anticipated annual Super Bowl Party Raffle tickets will go on sale Jan. 7, 2018. Be sure to enter for your chance to win a tv, food for 12-15 people from appetizers to dessert, decorations, and a football. Only $5 a ticket, there'll be 2 winners, and we deliver your party to you on Super Bowl Sunday! This event raises money for scholarships to graduating seniors at area high schools who have shown a commitment to community service.
Guest Chef Night
Guest Chef Night is back at Buoy One, Westhampton and we're SO EXCITED! We will be having our Guest Chef Event on Tues., Jan. 16, 2018. This event also raises money for scholarships, and we'll be selling our Super Bowl Party Raffle tickets that night as well. Watch for more info.
Halloween Costume Giveaway
Sat., Sept. 30, 2017, Held at the HMUH Building, 1 Neville St. Center Moriches. 10 a.m.- 2 p.m., Rain or Shine. Also Oct. 21 on the lawn at Clayton Huey Elementary @ the Chamber of Commerce's Fall Festival. Between the two events we gave away hundreds of costumes to happy shoppers!

Community Yard Sale
Was held on September 9th at the HMUH building and raised over $2,400. Thank you to all who donated, made a purchase, or just stopped to say hello.
Center Moriches Community Spirit Award
Keith was surprised and honored to find out that he'd been chosen by the CM Teachers Association to receive the Community Spirit Award at the Student Awards Night on April 24th!
Survivor's Little Helper Community Partner Award
Keith and Cassy Caputo were presented with the Survivor's Little Helper Community Partner Award by Stepping Stone Support at the 5th Annual Charity Brunch on May 21, 2017. Stepping Stone Support is an all-volunteer charity making a difference in the lives of cancer patients and their families.
Helping Makes U Happy, with assistance from Easter Baskets by Olivia, and the students from Mrs. Tracy Sigerson's class provided Easter Baskets for children referred to them by school social workers and administrators in the ESM and Center Moriches School Districts.
2017 Brookhaven Town Youth Volunteer Award Recipients
In April, the Helping Makes U Happy Board was honored to be selected as 2017 Youth Volunteer Recipients for their ongoing commitment to providing support and leadership to youth in our local communities.
Helping Makes U Happy Has a New Location
In May our big news was that we relocated to One Neville St., in Center Moriches! We finally have room for all the helping things we want to do, the helping things we can help others do, and for all the people who have been patiently waiting to help us do them!
Memorial Day Breakfast for Our Veterans
Last year and again this year, Helping Makes U Happy prepared and served breakfast to the veterans at VFW Post 414 in Center Moriches. We hope to make this an annual event- a small gesture to thank them for all they've done to protect and serve.
We again are selling our HMUH flag tee shirts in red, white, or blue for Memorial Day and 4th of July. Proceeds go to support local veterans. This year we purchased towels and pillows for the Veterans Home in Yaphank.
June is a busy month for Helping Makes U Happy as we select and present $1000 scholarships to deserving seniors who have shown an extraordinary commitment to community service in 5 area high schools- Center Moriches, ESM, William Floyd, Mercy High School, and Westhampton Beach. New this year is funding the $500 Martha O'Brien Hometown Scholarship.
Keith Speaks At Schools
Also in June Keith was invited to speak at the East Moriches Middle School to a BOCES class led by Laura Ruhl. His speech was so inspirational that several students immediately signed on to volunteer with Helping Makes U Happy. Keith was also invited to participate in the Center Moriches Parent Child Home Program End of Year Celebration where he presented backpacks with school supplies to all the students in the program. The backpacks were funded by a pay-it-forward donation from ESM's Douglas Froberg's Pennies for People Project. All the families were given $25 grocery store gift cards to help their children start off summer with full tummies. The first Brian Van Whye Dedication to Learning Award in the amount of $200 was also presented to the family who showed the most dedication to fostering a love of learning.
Buddy Bench at Dayton Ave. School, Manorville
Helping Makes U Happy was proud to fund the construction of a buddy bench at the Dayton Ave. School in Manorville. The buddy bench will be to promote friendships, not bullying, among students. Keith was surprised to receive a Humble and Kind Certificate and a generous donation to HMUH from the South Manor PTA!
Feeding the Families
Last summer Clayton Huey Elementary School referred 20 families to Helping Makes U Happy. These families who received free or reduced cost breakfast and lunch while school was in session, needed some assistance in providing meals for their children during the summer months, This summer, the school referred 37 families. This is now on-going, along with supplementing local food pantries whenever possible.
Open House and Name Our Giraffe Contest
On Wed., July 12, and Sat., July 15th Helping Makes U Happy hosted an open house so members of the community could come visit our new location and celebrate with us. To commemorate the occasion, we are having a Name Our Giraffe contest, where community members making a $1 donation can enter a suggested name for our resident giraffe, with the winning entry receiving 4 tickets to the Bronx Zoo!
And even more way we've helped in the past:
• Donated chemo cinch sacks to Stony Brook Hospital for children going through chemo treatments
• Donated custom super hero cars to Stony Brook’s Children’s Cancer Center
• Donated thermal totes to SB Hospital for mothers of premature infants.
• Every winter we donate hats, scarves, gloves, and food to the less fortunate through the pantries at St. John’s Church, the Presbyterian Church of the Moriches, Lambs Chapel, and Christ Lutheran Church. We also donate through the CM Schools Giving Bags project
• Donate hoodies for the homeless all year long through John’s Place, a homeless shelter working with people in Greenport and Mattituck
• Blankets for the homeless through the ESM Stuff a School project
• Provided financial assistance through Make-A-Wish of Suffolk County for help in granting wishes of children with serious illnesses
• Last year we collected and gave away hundreds of free Halloween costumes to area residents
• Provided financial assistance for local children to attend summer camps through Moriches Community Center programs, and provided books for each of their Santa’s Workshop families
• Collected and helped purchase approx. 500 toys for families assisted by the Family Service League of Mastic at holiday time, and also toys for local families being assisted by religious organizations
• This year we provided $1000 scholarships to CM, ESM, Wm. Floyd, and Westhampton Beach High Schools
• Established a birthday club for families in need through local schools, providing toys, paper goods, and birthday cake items and provided Easter baskets as well
• Supported the CM Robotics team
• Supported The Community Library Friends of the Arts
• Provided financial assistance for children of families in need to attend theater camps
• Supported the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team
• Supported the “Boxtown” college event to support the homeless
• Provided financial assistance and donated to families affected by sudden devastating illness
• Supported Kids Need More by providing needed items for their day camp program for children affected by cancer in their families, and donating to their fund to provide a generator for the camp
• Established a “Feeding the Families” project to provide 20 families in need, who have no transportation and were referred to us by the school, with weekly groceries over the summer.
• Established “Martha’s Closet”- an online yard sale raising funds to provide back-to-school outfits for children in need
• Provided 70 Backpacks filled will school supplies to students in need.
